You’re trying to hold it together at work, look after the kids, have a relationship with your partner, and make sure all the things need to happen – the shopping, washing, cooking, ironing, cleaning, homework, kids dancing/swimming/music/tutoring, did I mention washing?
Breathe….
Let me tell you – as sure as you need to pull your oxygen mask down first on a plane, you need to look after yourself. You first Mumma – even (dare I say it) before your kids.
Because if you’re not OK – they’re not going to be OK. Your partner isn’t going to be OK, work isn’t going to be OK and it’s all going to fall apart.
You are the key.
The centre.
The glue that holds your little world together.
And if you don’t make time to look after you – the stress, the anxiety, the overwhelm, the fatigue & the worries? They’re going to take over.
As a naturopath I’ve seen hundreds of women walk into a session on the verge of falling apart. They’ve spent so long feeling stressed and anxious that it’s become their new normal. And it doesn’t need to be.
I’ve been there myself. I was diagnosed with severe post-natal anxiety after having my daughter – but I didn’t feel much different to how I normally felt. I soon found out that I’d been experiencing anxiety for most of my life and I didn’t know it, or recognise it as anxiety – it had just become my normal.
There are so many things you can do to support your wellbeing, tools you can use to help reduce stress and feelings of anxiety, and to increase your ability to cope with stress.
